Controversial golf course plan gets public review July 20

Readers of this blog know that for two years I have been publicizing the good work of dedicated grassroots citizens who are trying to save a 247-acre nature preserve, its wetlands, forests and sand dunes, from planners and their bulldozers who want to convert the pristine site and four acres of adjacent state park land along Lake Michigan just south of Sheboygan into a high-end, privately-owned, 18-hole, traffic-inducing, fertilizer-dependent and groundwater-hogging golf course.

Making matters worse, the Wisconsin DNR has been working closely at state expense with the developer, Scott Walker donor Herbert Kohler Jr. to edit and tweak the layout without requiring the submission of permit applications.

Who gets this kind of favored treatment?

So The Friends of the Black River Forest ask:

Are your calendars marked for July 20, Sheboygan Falls High School Auditorium, 6-9 p.m. to tell the DNR you have had enough of its giveaways to billionaires?
Please show this state that it will stop here. See www.friendsblackriverforest.org for the Draft Environmental Impact Study and DNR contact information:

If you cannot attend, send comments to: DNRKOHLERPROPOSAL@wisconsin.gov or Jay Schiefelbein, Wisconsin DNR, 2984 Shawano Avenue, Green Bay, WI 54313-6727.

All comments received will be considered in the preparation of the DNR's final EIS. Written comments carry the same weight and will receive the same level of consideration as oral comments provided at the hearing.
