Fatigue Factors In Bronx Train Wreck Recall Jetliner Crash 20 Years Ago

The engineer driving the NY commuter train that crashed in the Bronx a few days ago acknowledges nodding off, and perhaps more telling, had a recent change in work hours to days from nights.

Fatigue degrades concentration - - a serious but not unheard of occurrence when transportation systems are running: give this report into a civilian cargo plane crash at a US naval base in 1993 a read. I remember it from my days covering aviation safety at The Milwaukee Journal.

    Mythbusters did an experiment comparing tipsy driving versus fatigued driving, and found that in some aspects being tired was worse than being near the legal limit.

    Both things that you shouldn't be doing.
