Waukesha County Clerk Screws Up Another Election

[Friday update - - Nickolaus pushed out by Co. Exex Dan Vrakas in GOP damage control move.]

Upcoming recall vote tabulations in Waukesha County must be overseen by US Justice Department monitors, and Kathy Nickolaus needs to be replaced by Government Accountability Board personnel before the voting begins.

Intent or ineptitude - - this is no joke.

She infamously botched the Prosser Supreme Court election tabulations a year ago, and her 2006 snafu led to the disclosure that she had taken official counting off county computer equipment and on to password-protected private computers.

Enough is enough.

Three strikes. She's gotta be out.

  1. this is unbelievable.

But since it is the Republican Primary, it seems to me that the answer is colossal, mind-warping incompetency.

  2. I'm not a constitutional lawyer, but does the GAB really have the authority to remove an elected official?

While I will not support her in the upcoming election and although she has been accused of fraud numerous times (Graeme Zielinski), she has always come up with the correct vote totals. Yes, even after the democrats double and triple checked.

However, I too would like the correct totals sooner and would encourage the next county clerk to adopt the GAB software to help avoid any claims of fraud and get the totals out before dawn on the following day.

Plus, that way the Republican candidates can start their victory parties sooner!

  3. So soon after County Exec Vrakas gave her a 'thumbs'up'? Say it ain't so!

Maybe not, but they would certainly have the authority to have someone else do the vote counting.

I am not sure James was saying to remove her entirely, though, or just saying bench her for the elections.

  5. White strips of voting totals plastered against government walls being counted by white women in bare feet who faced the reality that this ain't high heal time.

  6. I say recall her! She can experience some more pain messing those totals up.

You can bet she'd get that total right! Or not?

  7. RD--How do you know she comes up with the correct vote totals? Really?

  8. @Anon 6:49 pm: She doesn't need to be recalled. She is up for election in Nov 2012. What James and JS are saying is that she needs to be removed from office BEFORE the May 5 primary, the June 8 recall, and whenever they schedule the recalls and primaries for the 4 Senators. I believe the Waukesha County Board can vote her off the Republican island. County Executive Vrakas, while he has no actual authority over her, can certainly do his part by speaking to her confidentially and convincing her that she's in a no-win situation and it would be best for all if she'd resign.

  9. To JB--RD knows** she comes up with the 'correct' vote totals because his party machine gives them to her. It's all settled in advance so it doesn't matter what plays out on election day. That's the way they roll in Waukesha County!=.

**RD is always absolutely sure his wild predictions are right.. . until proven wrong. Then you don't hear from him for a few weeks. Or he attempts to twist his way into being right by calling 3%, 12%, or making 12% into 20% or some kinda fuzzy math. Anyway, pay no attention to the man behind the curtain!

  11. Boxer,

I was on vacation and didn't have internet access. Oh, and nice try but... you were the one implying that 12% was closer to 3% than it was to 20%. Don't let the truth get in your way, plus the fact I admitted I was wrong. You should try it sometime.

@JB... I know the totals are correct because the democrats quadruple checked the totals (speaking to the Prosser race) and they were accurate with the reporting from all of the communities.

I could say the same thing for Dane or Milwaukee County.

As for removing her, I believe as an elected official she must be recalled. I don't believe the County board has the authority to remove her. I don't support her in this position and believe she will lose her election, but she can't just be kicked out of an elected position.

I don't have a problem with a new clerk for the primaries either, but that will not stop the democrats like Graeme from shouting "Fraud" every time his side loses, which will happen again in the recall attempt.
