Marvelous Mitt Drops The Ball

Mitt Romney called Paul Ryan's House budget plan "marvelous."

Cuts to Medicare, tax breaks for the rich - - Ryan's Radical Ego Trip 2.0...is "marvelous?"

With baseball is in the air, when I hear "Marvelous" I immediately think of  late Marvin (Marvelous Marv) Throneberry, an original 1962 New York Met - - yes, those amazingly hapless Mets.

Who but Mitt Romney, a/k/a The Etch-a-Sketch Man, could manage to conjure up the ghost of Marvelous Marv just as the GOP nomination appears within actual reach?

Throneberry was the leading scapegoat on the club's early, awful years.

He had a lifetime batting average of .237.

His base-running 'skills were so horrible that he cost his team a game by forgetting to touch first and second base legging out a triple, and he was such a menace at first base that when he complained to manager Casey Stengel that he hadn't gotten a piece of the skipper's birthday cake in a post-game celebration in the clubhouse, Stengel said it was because he was afraid Marv would drop it.

Yes, Marvelous Marv became something of a legend, and a self-deprecating attitude won him a role in wacky Miller Beer commercials, but if the presumptive GOP nominee wants henceforth be another lovable loser - - Marvelous Mitt II - - break out the T-shirts.
