Looking for the WI GOP to again gear up its partisan Death Cult machinery.
'How come,' Bucky asks? 'Aren't Wisconsin's 900 COVID-19 deaths enough?'
Because WI Gov. Evers, faced with spiking COVID-19 caseloads and a place for our state on the CDC's "red-zone" infection list, has just (finally) issued a statewide order mandating mask-wearing indoors, except in private homes.
You know - to protect people in crowds where there may be poor air circulation and lapses in institutional hygiene - since the epidemic that became a pandemic and threatens to be become a permanent endemic is still very much on the loose here, albeit invisibly, hence face masks become the well-known and most-inexpensive, standard method of mass disease prevention.
Already implemented by 33 states who have managed in the literal face of the pandemic to be masked-and-tolerably-normal.
Without such an order, schools which reopen their buildings in the fall will likely become COVID-19 super-spreading sites for children, parents, pupils, and educators.
Expect WI right-wing anti-science and Evers'-hating Republicans to attack and again sue to overturn the order, despite the data and common sense.
After they walked away from any ongoing role in COVID-19 policy-making, except to litigate on the public dime, say 'no,' and continue on into month four of five of a fully-paid legislative vacation.
Not to mention the death announced Thursday of former GOP presidential candidate Herman Cain who died from the virus after posting images of himself mask-free enjoying Trump's COVID-19-now-even-more-ill-fated-virus-enabling- 'no-masks-required-Tulsa rally, CNN reported:

As a co-chair of Black Voices for Trump, Cain was one of the surrogates at President Donald Trump's June 20 rally in Tulsa, Oklahoma -- which saw at least eight Trump advance team staffers in attendance test positive for coronavirus....Cain had posted a photo of himself at the rally, seated closely among other attendees without a facial covering.
Steve Nass is already demanding that the legislature comes into session to stop this, calling it unconstitutional. I think it's fascinating that they couldn't come into session to handle the huge pile of issues in the state, but --- oh man, THIS is a crisis.
ReplyDeleteI don't think the GOP is going to do anything - that is after all what the WI GOP does best. I also think this is going to be really hard to enforce in a lot of the state.
