Trump gets photo-op mileage by signing a policing 'reform' Executive Order which, as The New York Times points out, was insubstantial and tone deaf:
for signing Executive Orders:
Trump signs an executive order on principles for police training and use of force.
President Trump signed an executive order on Tuesday to encourage changes in policing, including new restrictions on chokeholds. But the order will have little immediate impact, and does not address calls from activists and protesters nationwide for broader action and a new focus on racism.
Speaking in the White House Rose Garden and flanked by several uniformed police officials, Mr. Trump depicted police misconduct as rare and police officers as embattled American heroes who must be defended.
The order does not mandate any immediate action; rather, it lays out what a senior administration official called “guiding principles,” to be translated into specifics by the Justice Department and Congress. And I admit it's rare to see the words "Trump" and "principles" in the same headline, especially when Trump has encouraged police to rough up suspects in custody and repeatedly blasted President Obama
for signing Executive Orders:
Trump outstripping Obama on pace of executive orders
Back in 2012, Trump had tweeted: “Why Is @BarackObama constantly issuing executive orders that are major power grabs of authority?”
That criticism continued once he entered the presidential race.
“The country wasn’t based on executive orders,” Trump said at a South Carolina campaign stop in February 2016. “Right now, Obama goes around signing executive orders. He can’t even get along with the Democrats, and he goes around signing all these executive orders. It’s a basic disaster. You can’t do it.”-------------------------
