And ONE candidate for Governor on the Democratic side is going to stand-down and let Foxconn steal billions for state taxpayers while all of this happens, the front-runner, Tony Evers.
ReplyDeletePerhaps since you have past ties to Paul Soglin, you have chosen to blog little about the primaries -- reasonable choice (if this is true).
However, it is appropriate to point out -- and it is entirely related to your points in this post -- that Evers will be a terrible candidate to oppose Walker and will lose.
On virtual important every issue, Evers is not a "republican lite" -- he is aligned with GOP. He supports more excessive incarcerations, including locking up non-violent offenders and even medical marijuana users. He wants to continue to stick it to young adults seeking post-secondary education, and he is the only candidate to throw in the towel on Foxconn as if it is a done deal. It is not and Matt Flynn can clearly articulate why.
Evers name recogniztion does not matter -- he will lose to Scott Walker, because he has nothing to show for his mealy-mouthed years as Superintendent of Schools. The lie that Wisconsin had some of the best schools in America was quickly exposed when more students started taking the ACT/SAT tests (previous claims boasting about state scores were always lies as few students took the tests and even fewer non-majority students did).
The only way to beat Foxconn is to beat Scott Walker this fall. This will take a turnout like we saw in 2008 and 2012 when Obama was on the ticket -- especially in Milwaukee and other urban areas. Evers will never get the support of those communities as he continues to lead the most racist schools in America. He insulted the intelligence of the African American community with a sham task force that meant nothing and did even less to help close by far the greatest achievement gap in America.
No single person in Wisconsin is responsible for the fact that the Badger State is the worst place in the United States to raise African American children, because Evers continues to stand down for dysfunctional and blatantly discrimination across virtually every Wisconsin school district. The turnout needed to beat Walker will not be there for Evers.
But it does not matter -- whether Walker or Evers is Governor, everything you continually and astutely point out about Foxconn will happen. Evers pretends that he will make sure that non-majority people get jobs -- BUT HE HAS NEVER DONE ANYTHING TO SUPPORT THE EDUCATION OF THESE SAME PEOPLE. His record at DPI and at the district he was superintendent of previously, Oakfield, prove that he will do nothing to back up tough talk about Foxconn hiring.
I hope you understand, Mr. Rowen, why these comments belong in this post -- they are not off-topic. Only Scott Walker and Tony Evers support Foxconn. We can shut this down and Matt Flynn is the strongest candidate to do so, but every other candidate will fight with you opposing this debacle.
