[This post updates an earlier version referencing a $150 million program cost which Vukmir has reduced to $57 million.]

When fiscal conservatism and GOP orthodoxy meets election-year opportunism, something's gotta give, and in this case, Bucky, it's your wallet.
Phony WI GOP fiscal conservative State Sen. Leah Vukmir complains on her US Senate campaign website that "Congress is addicted to spending our money,"
but she just got her agreeable State Senate colleagues to pony up a fresh ton of our money every year on costly prison expansion.

The measure, Senate Bill 54, would require the Department of Corrections to recommend revoking probation, parole or extended supervision for anyone under its purview charged with a felony or violent misdemeanor. The Department of Corrections estimates the proposal would send nearly 1,800 more people to prison a year at a cost of more than $57 million a year.
An earlier estimate put the cost at nearly $150 million a year, but it was lowered after Vukmir modified the bill to limit who would be subject to automatic revocation proceedings.
