Will benefits of clean air, water laws die with their author?

Leon G. Billings, a key behind-the-scenes US Senate staffer who crafted the US Clean Air and Water Acts,  has died, The New York Times reports.

His work and the public health benefits from those crucial laws could also pass away if the corporately-obeisant national GOP follows Scott Walker's lead and convinces Donald Trump. with Paul Ryan driving the legislative train, to give the polluters what they want.

It seems as that's where we're headed:

EPA to issue rules on smokestack greenhouse gases soon
Donald Trump has selected one of the best-known climate skeptics to lead his U.S. EPA transition team, according to two sources close to the campaign.
Myron Ebell, director of the Center for Energy and Environment at the conservative Competitive Enterprise Institute, is spearheading Trump’s transition plans for EPA, the sources said.
