[Updated from 3:30 p.m., Friday, 5/28] I hope Wisconsin newspapers and electronic media with editorial boards or commentators, without any contorted reach for false equivalencies or small-picture framing - - and with clarity and gusto - - call out Scott Walker for the "drafting error" lie he told about his rewrite of the UW system's guiding Wisconsin Idea, and for his stone-walling effort at taxpayer expense to hide the truth by illegally withholding records, and for trying to end-run the legislature administratively by creating a self-serving exemption in the state's foundational Open Records law to justify the records' withholding.
And let's not have editorial boards bury their commentary in low-audience holiday weekend air time or editions, as that would only compound Walker's having buried the truth and the records that proved it in the first place.
Details, background, the bigger picture and a link to the records broken free by judicial order Friday, here.

ReplyDeleteIt will be much worse then this -- THEY WILL ALL ENDORSE HIM AGAIN IN 2018 ACROSS THE STATE!
But this is how we escaped accountability in 2012 recall and again in 2014. So does anyone really believe that in April Walker "wins" by 8% in a state-wide race and within 3 months Obama wins by 8.5% -- this is more than a 16 point swing.
Sorry folks, didn't happen -- you have all be had and no one says "boo" about unverifiable proprietary elections where GAB will not release ward-by-ward data. But even what was release does not pass basic scrutiny.
Suggested headline: Walker Lied, Walker Lies.
ReplyDeleteMillions of dollars in campaign money ensures that WI for profit coprorated media won't do what you hope they will about this issue James. They are hopelessly corrupt.
ReplyDeleteSadly real and truthful print journalism is dead. Corporate greed has sold the printed word to the highest bidder and in the process has sold its soul!
ReplyDeleteNo one should spend a dime with the lying liars that own the noooozepapers. No one should spend a penny with those that advertise in them either.
ReplyDeleteI especially like the 'with clarity and gusto' part of your plan! Oh that the editors across the state would listen to you!
ReplyDeleteThe media does much worse than just endorse Walker and marginalize anything that he does that is "inconvenient" by giving lip-service and minimal coverage buried in the rest of their noooze, they also are largely hiding the fact that Walker and his republican cronies are literally putting animal feces and urine in drinking water!
ReplyDeleteNow this is a platform that even his moron supporters will not support when the sh!t is in their water. So how much reporting of the facts behind the recent push for concentrated animal feeding operations (CAFO)?

As others bring up, it is not in the Wisconsin media's financial interest to tell the truth about these vandals at the Capitol.
ReplyDeleteUnless the hit to their credibility becomes too much of a threat to their bottom line. I absolutely believe this happened with the Wisconsin State Journal, who have upped their game in recent months when it comes to not allowing Walker's BS to go unchallenged.
An interesting look at history reveals that the JS has engaged in war against other papers when they stepped "out of line". They filed lawsuits against the old Shepherd when they were putting paper boxes on some of the same light poles that had JS boxes. The JS basically claimed "ownership rights" to those poles since they were there first. Silly you say? Not when you have the good old boy system helping you out. The JS has used their clout regarding newsprint and ink availability and press-time. The JS has always maintained tight control over the suburban newspapers. No editor/reporter for any of the suburban papers will rock the boat because the word will come from downtown and they'll be gone.
