[Updated] Walker and his corporate-obesiant DNR have had themselves quite the Earth Day, 2015 - - sending 57 layoff notices to science and other staffers as part of a four-year plan to undermine Wisconsin's environment - - but leave it to current agency Secretary and GOP cheerleader Cathy Stepp - - inveterate all-staff emailer - - to cap it off with a meaningless yet insulting, all-employee email:
Good afternoon colleagues,
Earth Day is a celebration of the work that you do throughout your careers to care for our little piece of the earth. Wisconsin has a long legacy of conservation leadership which continues to live on through each and every one of you. Because of your dedication to the natural resources, you carry on the legacies of great Wisconsin conservationists such as: John Muir, Aldo Leopold and Gaylord Nelson.
Your passion for Wisconsin’s people, land, air, water and forests make this state a premier place to live, work and play in. Thank you for being leaders in conservation and providing above and beyond customer service to our internal and external partners.
You inspire others to take care of our earth by living out DNR’s mission and I thank you for your part in providing a healthy and sustainable environment today and for generations.
Have a great day celebrating the 45th anniversary of Earth Day!
We are committed to service excellence.

Does Stepp realize that the recipients of this letter will consider it a slap in the face? Or does she know, but doesn't care?
ReplyDeleteStepp and her GOP colleagues prove time and again that they are completely oblivious to the needs, concerns and feelings of workers and citizens.
I just threw up a little.
ReplyDeleteThe at risk notices to federally funded employees will have no impact on the budget. This smacks of retaliation.
ReplyDeleteOr worse- it opens the door to more desecration of the environment and skirting of the law without consequences.
DeleteThat seems like the real goal here- along with the nod to the Kochs and other oil men.
Like just about everything Scott Walker does.
ReplyDeleteGee, having a resume of working at McDonald's and Stein Optical and no college degree will really get you far in Walker and the Koch's Wisconsin!
ReplyDeleteUnbelievable.
ReplyDeleteDo you think she had a clue?
The New Yorker as this bit on Scott Walker as a wholly owned Koch Industries subsidiary:

Not a Stepp in the right direction.
ReplyDeleteActions speak louder than words. It would be kind to say Cathy Stepp is disingenuous as is Governor Roadkill.
ReplyDeleteShe proves that you just can't fix STUPID!
ReplyDeleteLayoffs at DNR are a good thing. Means more money for earth, bears, fish, birds, wolves, and every other type of fauna and wildlife.
ReplyDeleteBetween a big payoff and a nice place to live, which do you think the bears, fish birds and wolves would prefer? That's where animals are so much smarter than people, who often confuse money with the things they want, and sometimes choose it over what they, their families and communities actually need.

ReplyDeleteBears would crush you with derivatives and sham paper assets in a heartbeat if they could. I say defund dnr and give the cash to the animals and lets see if they can compete in financial markets!
