A real Governor whose major state university's basketball team was making its first appearance in the NCAA championship game in 74 years might have flown to relatively-close by Indianapolis to attend the game, but not Walker.
Or greet the team on its return to Madison? Not our guy, as far as I can discern scanning media today.
It's the sort of thing I can image Jim Doyle or Tommy Thompson doing, as both are UW alums.
Nor do I find that he mingled with students at the Memorial Union or Union South or on State Street after the game, though since he secretively rewrote the UW system's mission statement and lied about it being a "drafting error," won't help students legislatively with debt relief, wants to cut $300 million from the system, is forcing layoffs through buyouts at four campuses so far and has just triggered huge proposed graduate and out-of-state tuition boosts that could hit $10,000 annually at the UW-Madison, I'm not sure Walker would be embraced if he wanted to commiserate and rub shoulders with students and faculty after the game.
He put up a 'proud of you' tweet on his campaign Twitter feed last night - - followed this morning by three shots at Obama who absolutely leveled Walker over Iran- - but nothing so far on his official Governor's account after a 'ready for the big game' Tweet 13 hours ago.
Which is appropriate, since these days he 's more Walker the candidate learning to say y'all in the south and drop his heavily-nasal "Wiscahnsin" accent, The New York Times reported.
Wisconsin's young players squeezed from tired bodies every ounce of energy after six games, selflessly carrying the hopes of Badger Nation on their shoulders, while Walker distances himself geographically and politically from the state except when citing something he did here that he believes will advance his personal campaign positioning.
UW's team earned the right to represent On, Wisconsin.
Walker can have Depart Wisconsin.

"Wisconsin's young players squeezed from tired bodies every ounce of energy after six games, selflessly carrying the hopes of Badger Nation on their shoulders" - well said!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations to the team on a very successful season - we are so proud of you!
Walker has always been obsessed with winning at all costs.
ReplyDeleteThe Badgers lost, so he no longer cares about them.
Oh well. At least we (and the team) were spared the sorry spectacle of the Wanker trying to take credit for a Badger victory.
Walker can't have wisconsin fans screaming "SHAME SHAME SHAME!" After all, he's runnin' fer President fer Pete's sake.
ReplyDeleteAccording to today's New York Times, he was at Eureka College extolling the virtues of Dutch Reagan yesterday. http://www.nytimes.com/video/us/politics/100000003613847/walker-speaks-on-admiration-for-reagan.html?smprod=nytcore-iphone&smid=nytcore-iphone-share
