Two more dogs thrown to wolves in cruel-hunting WI

Bear hunters in Wisconsin keep running their hounds during 'training' through wolf territories, and the DNR tells us today that two more bear hounds have been killed by wolves as a result.

Man's best friend? Or most disposable? Why the state's cruelty-to-animals prohibitions do not apply - -  is beyond belief.

These are the 14th and 15th hounds to die this way this year - -and under DNR procedures, the owners are eligible for $2,500 state reimbursement replacement payments.

Madness.

From the DNR:

Bear Hound killed in Douglas County

On September 26, Wildlife Services confirmed that wolves killed a 10 year old and a 5 year old English bear hound in the same incident. The attack occurred in the Town of Oakland, Douglas County. More information and a caution area map are available on the gray wolf webpage.

Hunters are reminded to use the caution area maps on the DNR website (dnr.wi.gov, keyword "wolf management") to help reduce conflicts during this year's bear dog training and hunting season.

  1. How can it cost $2500 to replace a hound? Are we actually paying people a bonus to kill their dogs?
