Richard Posner is my favorite Ronald Reagan-appointed judge

The champion of American voting rights.

And for those of you old enough to remember why, Earl Warren redux:
In 1953, President Dwight D. Eisenhower appointed Earl Warren the fourteenth Chief Justice of the United States. Among the Warren Court's most important decisions was the ruling that made racial segregation in public schools unconstitutional. Another was the "one-man one-vote" ruling that caused a major shift in legislative power from rural areas to cities.

  1. Reading the opinion penned by Posner is a sheer joy. Solidly researched, well-grounded in legal scholarship, yet not in legalese but carefully crafted to be comprehensible by the lay reader -- and even entertaining, with his almost-snarky phrasings. Can't recall the last time that I laughed out loud in reading a legal opinion!

I realized, though, that his real audience is the Supremes, if they take up our state's voter ID law, lest they fall for the "evidence" that is "downright goofy, even paranoid" or for the false claim that Wisconsin's and Indiana's voter ID laws are legally alike.

Of course, the high court also deserves to be entertained as well as educated.
