Indulge me one more time. That's my dad Hobart Rowen, second to end, far right, applauding
at Ben Bradlee's retirement. Call it throwback Wednesday. Thank you, cousin Carol, for pointing it out.
In July 1991, Ben Bradlee, not quite 70, retired as executive editor of The Post amid an outpouring of emotion. Staff writer Nora Boustany, in a telegram from Beirut, called him “the grand, brave man of the news.” (The Washington Post)
Your dad was fortunate to have worked in the newsroom of such a quality newspaperman. And it sounds like Ben Bradlee thought very highly of your dad.
ReplyDeleteBen Bradlee once said "Everyone knew I had an overpowering interest in finding out the truth and getting it in the paper." If only the editors of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel were so compelled.
Your dad looks like a nice man! Thanks for sharing your memories about Ben Bradlee.
