Petition To Protect Nature Preserve From Golf Course Clear-Cutting

[Updated, 10:30 a.m.] There are four simple things you can do to help the Friends of the Black River Forest near Sheboygan, and like-minded Wisconsinites elsewhere, dissuade the Kohler Company from flattening, filling and otherwise converting 247-acres of woods and wetlands just beyond pristine Lake Michigan dunes to construct yet another high-end golf course.
The Wisconsin DNR must deny Kohler Company the use of public State lands for their private profit. The role of the WDNR is to protect the environment...not work for developers.

*  Sign the group's online petition.

*  Tell your state legislators (here's how to find their contact information) to direct the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources to deny the company the permission it is seeking to build a road and maintenance facility within the Kohler Andrae State Park that abuts the proposed golf course site.

And remind your legislators to make the environment, a clean Lake Michigan and an unspoiled Kohler Andrae State Park their top priorities in this matter.

*  Attend a public hearing in the Town of Wilson Town Hall at 6:30 p.m. on July 16th and support local residents who seek to hold Town officials to the preservation goals of the Town's adopted land use and development plan.

*  Urge environmental organizations which you support to get involved. State park land and Lake Michigan belong to the public.
From the Lake Michigan shoreline, looking west. State park land, dunes and beaches are to the south, abutting the preserve on which the proposed golf course would be built. The Black River is hidden behind the tree line within the preserve.
From the shoreline, looking northwest towards the proposed site. Four holes could be located on a half-mile stretch over-looking Lake Michigan.
