File under unbelievable:
Just as it is known that a) the DNR is still dragging its feet on environmental enforcement, and, b) the GOP-run Legislature is proposing to give big polluters at the behest of major business and trade groups - - led by the WMC, of course - - an extra 20 years to cleanup their fouling algae pollution caused when dumping phosphorous into publicly-held rivers and streams...
Comes c) the news that scores of additional rivers and streams in Wisconsin are found to be so polluted that the DNR has to add them to a list of overly-contaminated waters.
And will have to tell the EPA how Wisconsin intends to fix them.
How - - through the ideologically-directed 'chamber-of-commerce' mentality at the DNR already presiding over a pollution enforcement slowdown?
Oh - - and I forgot d):
High-level career resignations continue at the DNR. Is there any doubt as to why, generally-soeaking, given a, b, c above?
People used to come from all over the country to Wisconsin to do science and public policy work at the DNR.
Insiders will tell you those days are over.
As is the state's trusteeship for the water - - our waters.
Waters that do not belong to the polluters dumping in their phosphorous, or who could set in motion acid-mine run-off up north if the fast-tracked open-pit world-largest iron mine gets approved by the chamber of commerce DNR.
Unbelievable.

ReplyDeleteThere's another DNR employee who will be "retiring" soon.
Thanks for your courage, buddy, whoever you are.
