Your Tax Dollars At Work, WEDC-Style

I guess the troubled Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation has all its financial problems straightened out, as there's enough money in the kitty for its paid advertising over at the Journal Sentinel this morning, and earlier.
NewsWatch

Maybe from the same accounts that had also financed the purchase of iTunes cards, Wisconsin Union Terrace chairs and Badger football season tickets?

I'm awaiting the results of an Open Records request I made yesterday of WEDC for more details, but take note that some of today's news on the Journal Sentinel electronic platform is brought to you with the help of Scott Walker's chaired and created jobs-agency:

Update: It's back...

  1. I was WONDERING if anyone else noticed that. That is really remarkable.

  3. I noticed it. That ad had been up for at least a 6 hours. It's like they are showing off their fancy website.

  4. No wonder the JS Editorial board and indeed, the majority of reporters type favorably on behalf of WEDC positions.

  5. Boxer - not sure about that- Marley and Stein have been quite objective AKA critical of WEDC. But if you click on it , their website does look slick. Rowen - ya gotta wonder how that website cost and why they feel the sudden urge to advertise like this. So local municipalities can't use their own workers to save people money in fixing sewer laterals or paint stripes on their own highways but these jokers can advertise using taxpayer money to advertise. Really?

  6. And the first line in their "transparency" link is "WEDC’s $69 million budget is both financially responsible and sustainable." What a joke.

  7. C'mon James. This ad represents NO conflict of interest whatsoever, and won't color the J-S's reporting on the scam known as WEDC.

Just like I thoroughly believe Gene Mueller when he claimed that Sykes', Wagner's and Mercure's shows don't influence what WTMJ-AM covers. No site, totally independent.

  8. I wonder what the Pulitzer Board would think of this?

  9. Well, Jim, maybe the folks at WEDC decided it makes sense for them to advertise their existence in Wisconsin in a widely viewed electronic media outlet that goes to every corner of Wisconsin and is accessible across the entire worldwide web, as well. As a Wisconsin taxpayer, I have no problem at all with WEDC doing that -- it makes sense given WEDC's mission. The fact that it also helps to support an important economic enterprise in southeastern Wisconsin is an added benefit.

If you're really that concerned about the use of taxpayer dollars in Wisconsin, I can get you the phone number of Mike Tate, and you could give him a call to suggest it's time for the Wisconsin Democratic party to stop helping to launch recalls, lawsuits, and court cases that are based on nothing but pure spite while continuingto cost Wisconsin taxpayers far more than whatever the WEDC is paying the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel to sponsor News Watch.

  10. I see there is also a Scott Walker video posted on the site, nothing political there at all. I did appreciate the cute names they gave to the economic development regions in the state: Frac sand mining areas are named "Momentum West" and "7 Rivers Alliance". Wow, 7 rivers to pollute, what a Republican turn-on! Whereas the future site of the toxic, asbestos-laden, open-pit iron mine is in the "Visions West" region -- visions from hell is more like it.
