Here's a great idea: the sports media complex, in some parts, has begun calling the football team "Washington". How about calling it "the team from Washington" or "the Washington team" or in fact, just "the team"?
That's sufficiently vague and non-threatening enough to marginalize "the team" into choosing another name for branding purposes. It essentially takes away the team's identity, and performs a service for the team: if you want to be seen as racist, go ahead and stick with the Redskins. However, we're going to take the high road for you.
I was a bit surprised, Betsey, to hear the announcers during Sunday's football game seeming to go out of his way to refer to them as the "Redskins" even when "Washington" would have been more appropriate.
Kind of like how the "War On Christmas" idiots go out of their way to almost-yell "Merry CHRISTMAS!" at you, as if they are proving something.
I guess it depends on the announcer/s. . . and the affiliate. I don't remember which station/announcers decided to call them 'Washington' when the Packers played 'the team' recently. Yesterday I heard Howie Long on Fox call them 'Washington'. Zombie--who was announcing the Washington game yesterday? We may need to begin to put some public pressure on the bad boys.

as if they're offending you . . .
as if they're hurting your feelings . . . (if this is the case, they're intentionally trying to hurt your feelings: a very un-Christmas-like and unChristian intention)
as if you care they really think there really is a War on Christmas. . .
even at that, Krauthammer finds it impossible to admit that liberals have had this right all along. Barely able to say "right for the wrong reasons"
ReplyDeleteAlso, who is Jonah Goldberg to say there has been no harm?

I like calling them the Washington ChangeYourNames.
ReplyDeleteRidicule is a powerful weapon when attacking a Brand, so I've been referring to the team as the "Washington Foreskins".
ReplyDeleteSecond the foreskins vote, way more sensitive to the American Indian. How to make a logo...
