is not matching the bloody pace of the 'harvest's' first two weeks, DNR data show.
Wednesday evening update: 178.
Or the slowdown is deliberate, as dogs might be allowed in the hunt after 12/2 and if kill quotas are still open?
By the way, here is how the DNR describes this killing in an email today announcing the closing of one hunting zone:
“Our ultimate goal is to harvest 251 wolves, distributed across the landscape,” said [senior DNR wolf specialist David] MacFarland. “The harvest zones are a tool by which we attempt to direct the harvest to achieve desired outcomes. The quotas concentrate hunting pressure more in areas with higher potential for conflicts, allowing for higher population densities in core habitat where potential for conflict is lower. This is our second season, and we continue to learn information about harvest success that will be valuable in future management decisions.”Tools. Outcomes. Management decisions. We may as well be reading about widget production per assembly line machine.
Um, these are sentient beings, not widgets. They do not deserve to be "managed."
ReplyDeleteOr harvested, for god's sake.
ReplyDeleteI agree - These are BE-INGS, living, thinking, feeling, family oriented creatures with social bonds and emotional attachments to mates and relatives. How dare we treat them like widgets, or like ears of corn or radishes to be 'harvested'?
ReplyDeleteWolves are a crucial apex species, benefiting entire ecosystems (including 'game') - We are NOT smarter than Nature. Leave the wolves alone.
Please stop killing the wolves. please
ReplyDeleteI agree its wrong what your state doing move them stop killing how u like it if u was in that trap hope God sents all u wolf killer down were its hot like to say the word
DeleteSo the humans want to live in the wilderness and then kill it all off. Maybe it is the humans who should be "managed" or."harvested". Leave the wolves and bears alone...or go back to the city.
ReplyDeleteThe current regime in madison has no qualms harvesting wolves or iron or sand or water, managing wolves or people. We are all widgets in the same business scheme.
ReplyDeleteI still have not heard a reason for such slaughter ! And I will not ever look at Wisconsin as a home again! If you have a pet Dog you are killing his relative and would fight for your Dogs rights but here it seams the wolf has none is that because you don't experience the wolfs unconditional
ReplyDeleteLove like at home???? Well their pack does and will weep a great loss!!
I hope you will all be held accountable one day for this!!!
There are better ways to protect your cattle than killing the wolves.
ReplyDeleteYour total disregard for these beings and allowing people to kill for sport is despicable. From the videos I have seen of hunters torturing animals I believe the hunters need to be managed, not the wolves.
Will never visit the State of Wisconsin again - although both my parents are buried there.
ReplyDeleteLISTEN UP DNR, IF U THINK U R JUST KILLING WOLVES U R WRONG U R KILLING FAMILIES, CARING NURTURING LIVING BREATHING FAMILIES!! THESE R NOT WIDGETS,TO B HARVESTED, THEY R LIVING BEINGS THAT R BEING SLAUGHTERED FOR NOTHING! THEY HAVE DONE NOTHING WRONG OTHER THAN B WOLVES! THERE R NON LETHAL WAYS OF "MANAGING" THE WOLVES THAT HAVE BEEN PROVEN TO WORK WELL WHY CAN U NOT USE THEM. U R KILLING THE TEACHERS OF THE YOUNG, WHAT IS GOING TO HAPPEN WHEN U KILL OFF ALL THE TEACHERS, THEN THE YOUNG R GONNA HAVE TO FIGURE THINGS OUT ON THEIR OWN AND WE KNOW HOW THE YOUNG THINK THEY R NO DIFFERENT THAN YOUNG HUMANS R. THEN THERE WILL B PROBLEMS APLENTY~ NATURE KNOWS WHAT IT IS DOING SO QUIT MESSING WITH IT, ONLY THE GREAT SPIRIT SHOULD TAKE OUT WHAT IS NOT NECESSARY, AND THAT MY DEAR "FRIENDS" IS THE HUMAN FACTOR THAT IS THE EARTH'S MAJOR PROBLEM CHILD. HUMANS, HUMANS, HUMANS PLAIN AND SIMPLE...PERIOD.
ReplyDeleteSO PLEASE JUST STOP THE KILLING NOW!
Any more of this senseless killing and there will not be any wolves....perhaps that would be better. as then there would be no more cruelty
ReplyDeleteI find this behavior disgusting and what about the pups? They will die does the managers even give a crap
ReplyDeleteWildlife doesn't need managing but humans sure the fk do
ReplyDeleteI do not understand the murder of all these beautiful thinks God has made and you will answer to him. I do live in the country, have horses, ect. and a wolf 95% that lives in the house with us and sleeps with us. I know all the good and bad about them but people are also that way. Is this the reason, fear or greed of people. PLEASE leave them alone.
ReplyDeletethis is so very wrong there are other ways to do what u need
ReplyDeletestop killing innocent animals who have families to look after
How would you feel if a different country decided to hunt u down just for game God defintly is very unhappy with you, and that's not someone u want to make angry.
