On Monday, July 8, 2013, Midwest Environmental Advocates filed a request with a state circuit court on behalf of citizens who live near the Preferred Sands to ask a judge to review the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources' decision to partially deny the citizens' right to a full contested case hearing over air quality regulations of the frac sand mine. Petitioners asked the court to recognize that the citizens who live near the underregulated frac sand mine deserve to have a contested case hearing on all of the problems associated with the mine, including public health concerns with ambient air regulation and the need for monitoring and an environmental assessment done by our state’s natural resources protection agency.
