WI Legislators Proposing Expanded Gun-Buyer Background Checks

Here's what they are doing:
Representatives Jon Richards (D-Milwaukee), Terese Berceau (D-Madison) and Senator Nikiya Harris (D-Milwaukee) joined together today to announce they will be introducing legislation to add Wisconsin to the growing list of states requiring criminal background checks for all people buying firearms.
Under federal law, background checks are already mandatory for people who purchase weapons from federally licensed firearms dealers.  However, private-party transactions aren’t covered by the federal law, including sales by private sellers at gun shows and flea markets or on the Internet.
Here's how to join WAVE and promote the effort.

  1. I donated to the WAVE for the audit of the recall votes. That effort consisted of volunteers counting the paper ballots in certain districts to compare them to tabulators. I have never heard anything from the WAVE about the results of that effort which took place several months ago. In fact, the only emails I have gotten in the past 6 months are asking for donations. Based on that experience, I would not give this organization money.

  2. So if I want to buy a firearm from a relative I would need to do a background check.

However, under this proposal they could just gift it to me with no background check.

I could gift my brother a rifle today with no check. Tomorrow he sells the same rifle back to me for $50 and we need to get a background check done.

I'd like to hear the explanation on how this provision makes the world a safer place.

But on the bright side... I'm sure they all feel good about it.

  3. You could also steal a weapon from a relative: no background check.

Or pry one from the cold dead hands of a relative, friend or stranger, providing they were already dead: no background check.

Or break into an armory and take an entire arsenal: no background check.

Or your brother could re-gift the rifle back to you: no $50 and no background check.

    Or whatever: no background check.

You'll always come up with some bizarre scenario under which you can ridicule the need for a background check.

On the bright side, I'm sure it entertains your little mind.

Here's one for you: Why did the chicken cross the road? To avoid a background check.

If you don't have anything to hide, and can pass a background check, why do you even care?

  4. Should you pay a fee for a background check to vote?

    Why then a gun purchase?

To your point, I've bought all of my guns with a background check so your right, I shouldn't care. Why do you care if there is a voter ID requirement as I'm guessing you also have an ID and would be able to vote.

    Here is why I care:

Freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction. We didn't pass it on to our children in the bloodstream. The only way they can inherit the freedom we have known is if we fight for it, protect it, defend it and then hand it to them with the well thought lessons of how they in their lifetime must do the same. And if you and I don't do this, then you and I may well spend our sunset years telling our children and our children's children what it once was like in America when men were free. - Reagan

    1. Very True my heart breaks when i think of my son and daughter very possible not being able to enjoy the freedoms that me, my parents and grand parents enjoyed and cherish. The political climate is way to extreme not balanced and the white house is divided and corruption resides within all driven by greed and power hungry domestic enemies. We are slipping down the slope. Politicians are no longer for We the people. I miss Ronald Reagon and Michael Jacksons hair coaching on fire in the Pepsi commercial. LETS PULL TOGETHER AND VOTE THE ANTI AMERICANS ANTI CONSTITUTIONIST OUT OF OFFICE.

  5. Jani: Poe or Troll?

Imma voting Poe. The "hair coaching on fire" bit is hilarious, though.

If troll, I remind that Ronald Reagan's deficit spending exceeded Obama's, and he raised taxes eleven times.

  6. "Mommy, where is my astrologer?" - Ronald Reagan.

When not reading (off a teleprompter, it may be pointed out) he was goofy at best. Trees cause pollution. Shoebox of Boy's Life clippings.

It'd be amusing, if not for the damage he inspired.

But keep yearning after that dead guy, Republicans. It's a plan, such as it is.

  7. I see what jani means though about sons and daughters not enjoying the freedoms of of parents and grandparents. Here are just a few of the many lost freedoms:

    1) the freedom to swing by your neck from a rope tied to a tree branch that our black ancestors enjoyed.
    2) the freedom of being drafted to fight in a war on the other side of the world that no one understood then, or now.
    3) the freedom to die, or suffer terrible disfigurement and paralysis from smallpox and polio.
    4) the freedom to be medically experimented on without your knowledge or consent
    5) the freedom to enjoy a forced pregnancy, followed by a forced adoption and then living free after with heartache everyday for the child she was forced to give up
    6) another freedom women only can miss: the freedom to enjoy the fists of an abusive husband and his murderous threats, sometimes carrying them out.
    7) the freedom to abuse, rape or kill your wife and get away with it--"that's my private business."
    8) Black Americans' freedoms to enjoy free firehose showers and romping in the spray with police dogs.
    9) the freedom to rot away from diseases because you don't have the money to pay for doctors, treatment or early detection (that may be one freedom some uninsured Americans still enjoy today.
    10) Migrant workers' freedoms to work 14-hour days, days a week for less than minimum wage.

You know, jani (do you pronounce that jani as in John-y? or as in Yanni? just curious) you've really got me started on all these freedoms we've lost. I could on, but I think you know all too well what it is we've lost and whom to blame for it all: the black guy in the white house.
