Tea Party devotee and former family-plastics-business CEO Ron Johnson has done something of a disappearing act in Washington, D.C. - - name something he's done, aided, attempted, said, written - - but you can get closer to the heart of his political persona since his 2010 election by simply deleting the last two words of former US Senator Herb Kohl's substantive slogan "Nobody's Senator but yours."
Data and perception show he's basically Nobody's Senator, a Capitol Hill Nowhere man.
A solid challenge might just make him a one-termer.
Ron Johnson will be standing up in support of the second amendment of the constitution and voting against further infringements on the rights of lawful citizens. Tammy Baldwin, on the other hand, will probably be voting otherwise and if she does then she will be the single term senator.
ReplyDeleteTammy Baldwin has moved from the Wisconsin Legislature, to the House, to the Senate.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely no indication that her stance on issues is unpopular in Wisconsin.
Of course, Republicans were also completely convinced Rmoney was going to overwhelm Obama. Reality has little bearing on what conservatives believe anymore.
I am offended by your accusations of do-nothingness, sir!
ReplyDeleteThese are among the several minor accomplishments of the esteemed "Senior Senator" from Wisconsin in his short two years in office:
1) Attempted to "school" Junioress Senatoress Tammy Baldwin on the intricacies of the Federal budget. When Senatoress Baldwin rebuffed his re-education effort, RoJo offered to get on his knees to "pray the gay away". Outcome pending. . . .
2) Responded to two of my letters to him--on different subjects, mind you--with the SAME FORM LETTER RESPONSE. Lest you judge him too harshly, I really think the siggies were for reals, or at least seemed so when I held them to the light. His letter also included a mention of how many pieces of correspondence (20,000?) his office has received since his butt first began warming its chair. But I have no doubt that each templated, formatted, rote word was crafted with loving care by the hand of Patty Mac, head typist of the RoJo clerical pool.
3) Voted against the Violence Against Women Act renewal at least twice because he loves and respects women so much that he can't stand to see battered and abused women victimized even once more by an overbearing Federal Government that wants to force them into abortions and make Feminazibots of them all.
4) uh, um, ur. . . . well, there WAS a fourth something but I can't remember it now. What IS this blog, anyway--some kind of gotcha journalism?
First, just a correction so the liberals reading this blog don't get all excited in thinking RoJo will be up for re-election in 2014. I'm pretty sure Johnson was elected in 2010, not 2008.
ReplyDeleteSecond, if what you are saying about Johnson doing nothing over the last 3 years is correct, he only has about 22 more years to equal Herb Kohl's streak of futility.
I think you meant his 2010 election.

I am still chuckling...

Huh. Makes one wonder how he kept getting re-elected.
But RD has a point, as peripheral as it may be. Expect Ronbo to start attaching his name to any legislation, and in photo ops, to raise his profile for re-election fodder.
Well. I guess that would be easier if the Republicans were PROPOSING doing anything, rather than just obstructing everything.
Zombie,
ReplyDeleteDoing nothing, really? Who is the only party that has submitted a legally required budget the last 5 years?
Oh, but he can get his NCAA pool in on time, so that's doing something.
Budgets don't come from the President. Constitutionally, they are required to come from the house.
ReplyDeleteHowever, releasing transparent imaginary fake budgets such as Ryan's, that don't decrease the deficit any faster than doing absolutely nothing, does not obligate anyone else to take them seriously.
Meanwhile, regardless, the Senate just passed a budget, and the Progressive Caucus has had a budget proposal for years. One that, incidentally, does a better job of reducing the deficit than any other alternatives.
Of course, the House republicans refuse to take ANY offers of budget negotiations from the White House.
But since we were talking about Johnson and Kohl, I accept your apology for moving the goalposts, yet again.
@ Zombie,
ReplyDeleteIt's hard to negotiate when the Democrats don't have any budget plan at all.
It also seems as though you don't really understand the process. While budgets are voted on and required from the house, the President is the one who usually puts forward the budget proposal to be voted on for the fiscal year.
Oh, the last Obama budget to be presented and voted on lost 97-0 in the senate and 414-0 in the house. It is really kind of comical if it wasn't so sad.
As for "moving the goalpost," may I remind you that it was you who stated "REPUBLICANS" are doing nothing and only obstructing. I was just responding to another one of the many fallacies you like to bring up by showing you both sides. (Which I know you have problems seeing)
