News, weather, sports, instead of the relentless White Death hype served up these days - - Weather, news, weather, sports, weather.
So I love this Monday story headline and lede:
Weather service downgrades snowstorm advisory
The National Weather Service has cancelled a 10-county winter storm watch for southeastern Wisconsin, instead issuing a winter weather advisory for snow from 3 p.m. Tuesday to 6 a.m. Wednesday in Milwaukee, Racine and Kenosha counties.
Why oh why is there no mention during weather programming of air quality status, fine particle pollution and ozone? The data is readily available, free of charge from the government and there are even maps that could be jazzed-up with a doppler radar effect for added drama. This information would be extraordinarily useful to a wide range of viewers. Any station that routinely reported on air quality would gain a competitive advantage over those that didn't. I thought that gaining market share was the name of the game in broadcasting. So why the indifference from station managers, even the ones at public television?
ReplyDeleteI am so glad I no longer watch TV!
