Record Of Mining Hearing Excludes E-Mailed Comments

People like me who emailed a position and comments to the mining hearing last Wednesday are not going to be happy with being told their position and comments were not included in the Assembly's hearing report, according to this email received today from Assembly mining committee chair Mary Williams:

RE: Comments in Opposition to mining bills for the hearing record.

Hello James,
Thank you for contacting my office and providing your thoughts on AB 1.
I appreciate your desire to have your position on this bill added to the official committee report, however, this is not a request that is typically fulfilled by any Assembly committee. Standard procedure has always been to add registrations of persons physically present at the hearing to the official record only.
Although your name and position was not added to the official record, we have retained a copy of it in the hearing files.
Sincerely,
Rep. Mary Williams
87th Assembly District

I am registering my testimony below in opposition to AB1 and SB1. Kindly acknowledge receipt, and thank you.

  1. There were many (?hundreds) of us who were assured we could testify by email if we couldn't physically be there. We were even told the acceptable parameters- name, address, subject line, send during hearing hours only, send to Sen Tiffany and Rep. Williams. So much for our voices being heard.

  2. For crying out loud -- the one hearing they DID have they denied people the right to speak -- why does anyone think they will accept emails?

And why does anyone think it makes a difference -- those that do are just another version of atrios' 101st keyboarding brigade -- type some mindless drivel that no one will read anyhow and then pretend that a valuable important statement was made.

I suppose the purpose is to post on a facebook along with one's bowel movements for that day.

Just sick what passes for activism today. No wonder walker can divide and conquer.

  3. Well dang, the lawsuits are what will make a difference, the rest is just people talking about it. Not everyone's a lawyer, so I don't know what else you expect people to do besides talk about it. Surprise, people talk on the internet now! It doesn't prevent you from actually talking to people in person too

  4. Your voice has been heard and evaluated, the bill will pass next month.

  5. Dear Mary Williams,

What the heck do you know about anything anyway? You own and operate a supper club. I've been there. It smells like sizzling meat and old grease. The stench of stale cigarette smoke has permeated the carpeting and drapes. The bathrooms are cold and dirty. You know as much about legislating as you do about running an upscale establishment.

Yer in over yer beehive. Buzz off!
