Spencer Black says if you want to see what a potential mining operation could do to Penokee Mountains, there's a nearby example. Take a drive to Hibbing, Minn.
There you will find, Black says, "about as far as you can see in any direction, this massive hole in the ground. That used to be a mountain range."
And there is not one sensible person in northern Minnesota who would have it any other way
ReplyDeleteAfter next week things should start moving on making our own hole in the ground in Wisconsin. I think it will be an excellent tourist attraction and I can’t wait to go up north and see it.

ReplyDeleteI agree and also look forward to camping in a big hole, but think The real value to the tourist industry will be all the toxic silica dust -- iron mining may be getting all the attention, but this is really about frac sand mining for Koch!
Not even Wisconsin's GOP and their mindless supporters can possibly excrete enough waste material to fill these holes, but no doubt they will try.

ReplyDeletemaybe those MN folks like their hole, but they're, you know, viking fans too.
So they are used to sitting in and enjoying the warm stinky they make.

Just let me know what date and time you're going to visit the hole and which rim you'll be standing on . . . I'll be right behind you.
