David Clarke Urging Citizens To Arms Themselves

Somehow the budgetarily-challenged Milwaukee County Sheriff found the funds to air a sternly-worded radio spot (I'll post a link later) that urges citizens to get "in the game" arm themselves for self-defense until the law can show up after your 911 call.

Charles Bronson Redux.

The spot is more a way for the media-savvy Clarke promote himself, and also to take a swipe at Milwaukee County Executive Chris Abele - - who has cut Clarke's budget - - and Milwaukee Police Chief Ed Flynn - - who is actually more responsible for law enforcement in the City than is Clarke.

The Sheriff's main responsibilities are traffic and county park patrolling.

  1. Oh great! How long before some ill trained gun toting "civilian" is wounded or killed by being misidentified as "the perp" when 911 responders arrive at the scene.

If you are standing there holding a gun and still feel threatened by the situation and accidentally swing a raised gun toward law enforcement officers you might very well be mistakenly seen as a threat.

Just because you are legally carrying a gun doesn't mean you will look like a law abiding citizen during an adrenaline charged situation.

  2. Sounds like a prudent decision to me.

Remember, when seconds count the police are only minutes away.

  3. I have lived in the City for 30 years. Never, not once, needed a gun in that time.

David Clarke is a fool and a politically motivated panic merchant.

Just because other people wet their pants at any loud noise doesn't mean I have to live my life in the same fear.
