The ubiquitous AR-15 - - implicated in the Newtown school slaughter, the Aurora movie theater massacre, the DC snipers' terrorism, the
2007 Colorado New Life Church spree killings, the fatal Portland mall holiday outrage and the upstate New York first-responder ambush - - has been
ID'ed among two guns an Albuquerque teen is alleged to have used to gun down five members of his family:
Court documents claim 15-year-old Nehemiah Griego confessed to taking a
.22 caliber rifle from his parents’ closet and shooting his mother,
Sara, whom he was upset with.
He then shot his three siblings to death: 9-year-old Zephania, 5-year-old Jael and 2-year-old Angelina...
Griego told investigators he then waited five hours and ambushed his father, Greg, with an AR15 rifle.
Guns in the home are far more likely to be used against family members or in suicides than against intruders,
data show.
A gun in the home -- thus available for
self-defense -- is 22 times more likely to be used in an assault or
homicide, an accidental shooting or a suicide or attempted suicide.
Researchers reached this conclusion by
studying hospital admissions, emergency medical technician reports,
police and medical examiner files in 626 shootings in or around a
residence in three cities: Galveston, Texas; Seattle, Wash.; and
Memphis, Tenn., for between 12 and 18 months.
The study was published in The Journal of
Trauma, Injury, Infection and Critical Care, in August 1998, by Dr.
Arthur Kellerman of Emory University in Atlanta and four other authors.
Their study was supported by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and
Prevention.
Contrary to what the media and president want us to believe, the last I heard was that the Newtown shooter did not use an AR-15. It was left in the car and only handguns were used according to this NBC report.

James, enough beating around the bush. Do you want a complete ban on firearms or not? Your sniping about "guns in homes are used against family members more than blah blah blah..." certainly seem to indicate that view.
What exactly is your stance on gun ownership and the 2nd amendment?
I see no validation for this out-dated report.
ReplyDeleteI have never supported a ban on firearms, and have publicly said what I support, which is a set of better backtround checks and other regulations.

ReplyDeleteAnd RD: Your dismissive "blah blah blah" remark about the consequence of firearms in the house - - proved by data - - indicates a real flaw in your thinking. Akin to your constant commenting about hammers and cars.
ReplyDeleteThe Albuquerque and Newtown cases are dramatic examples of guns in the home insecurely stored, with 33 deaths as a result of the guns deadly access.
That report cited was based on initial comments the day of the shooting, during the confusion and before the actual events had been determined. All subsequent reports, including coroner and medical reports, consistently indicate the use of the AR-15 as the murder weapon.
ReplyDeleteHowever, that initial report is being used as a significant part of the "Newtown Truther" movement that is claiming the entire thing as a false-flag operation of the government, including multiple shooters and the coordinated falsification of dozens of individuals, including all the police and emergency personnel involved. Amazingly and Depressingly, this idea is gaining some amount of traction.
Citing that report calls into question whether the person citing it also believes it was a secret government operation created solely to enact weak gun control legislation.
You have successfully proved another point.
ReplyDeleteBetter background checks will do nothing to prevent senseless killings if the problem is unsecured weapons in the home.
What is really needed is a common sense check and the full prosecution and sentencing for anyone who illegally possesses a firearm.
Better background checks will do nothing to prevent senseless killings if the problem is unsecured weapons in the home.
ReplyDeleteBetter background checks would have prevented that Minnesota felon from amassing an arsenal. Making such blanket statements, which in no way actually represents JR's actual position, only makes you look like an ideologue and troll.
When it comes to the word 'proved' it does not mean what you think it means.
Better background checks would have prevented that Minnesota felon from amassing an arsenal.
ReplyDeleteWow, talk about naivety. Do you really think believe that, or do you so want to believe that?
I could go buy a gun on the street in an hour... no back ground check, waiting period, nothing. Of course I wouldn't, but then again I am pretty much a law-abiding citizen.
I think it is time to take your head out of your... the sand.
