Dwindling Water In US West Amplifies Water Concerns Here, And Everywhere

The Washington Post takes note of what appears to the recognition that the Colorado River cannot sustain the West's water demands, especially as the climate continues to warm and people are still moving in large numbers to the seven US states that rely on the river.

This underscores the value of the Great Lakes Compact and the foresight shown by the eight states and two Canadian provinces that negotiated and adopted it.

The City of Waukesha is the first community seeking a diversion of Great Lakes water under the agreement's strict rules and standards that discourage moving water to a community like Waukesha that is entirely outside of the boundaries of the Great Lakes basin.

The more attention paid nationally and regionally to climate change, water resource management and conservation, the higher the bar for Waukesha and the diversion application as it faces a 2018 water supply deadline.

  1. The ice caps are melting, and good riddance; time to get that water tied up in ice back into circulation. Warmer weather and more evaporation will result in greater precipitation overall, not less. More rain, warmer weather, better crops, better living conditions for all life on earth.

localized weather incidents which are outliers from the generalized pattern mean nothing. The weather is becoming more favorable and there is nothing to do about it except enjoy it.

  2. Until the ice caps melt allowing the release massive amounts of methane gas into the atmosphere. #50 sunscreen won't help your grandkids anon 9:55.

  3. Anon 9:55 is the usual idiocy posted by someone who knows nothing of science, and doesn't know what he doesn't know enough to keep his ignorant mouth shut.
In addition to hastening the warming of the entire planet and impacting even variable climate patterns, the melting of polar ice turns freshwater into salt water that won't help a person or animal survive. Unless we can get desalinization going more efficiently and on a larger scale.

  4. Anon@11:42; not to mention those ice caps are currently functioning as reflectors, sending a decent portion of the Sun's energy back out into space, rather than heating up the planet even faster.

Of course, Anonytroll up there seemingly forgets there is a whole south half of the country that is already way too hot and has had the growing season shortened by drought and heat. A warming planet isn't doing THEM any good.

@9:55- so please share this more favorable weather pattern.

  6. Recall the release of emails between climate “scientists” of during the 2009 climategate scandal. The quotes included some revealing insights such as “The fact is that we can’t account for the lack of warming at the moment and it is a travesty that we can’t.” and “Mikes Nature trick…to hide the decline”, etc. etc.etc.
The global warming crises is a hoax, has always been a hoax and was proven to be a hoax by the climategate scandal. There is simply not one shred of evidence to suggest otherwise, and in science, when the evidence does not support the theory, the theory is wrong.

  7. If hurricane Sandy wasn’t enough to prove to you flat earth morons that global warming is a fact then you are hopeless. I mean like when did we have hurricanes before like this?
