The Madison Capital Times is reporting that adding five cents in taxes to the cost of a gallon of gas in Wisconsin is among the options nearing final consideration by the Walker-no-new-taxes-administration.
At 32.9 cents-a-gallon we're already a high-gas-tax state, data show. Most states have lower taxes, and an added five cents - - a 15% boost - - would push our comparative rate even higher.
Among the other new-revenue options: toll roads and even special fees collected from the drivers of hybrid vehicles; their efficient vehicles are selfishly robbing the transportation fund and road-builders' bottom lines of gas tax payments to which the government.road-builder complex feels entitled.
Any chance that the road-builders and politicians of both parties who serve them while eliminating train services and starving bus transit statewide will re-order their 'priorities' and scale back expanded billions of dollars in road-building already on the table: I/39-90 North and South; I-794 extended; I-94 North and South; the Zoo Interchange and other SE freeway system components; a New Hoan Bridge?
Nope.
This is very important news. So is nearly half of the President's cabinet quitting.
ReplyDeleteTime to send in the second string.
@ANON-Quiting - it happens. Second string? Hmmm
ReplyDeleteRather than tax the hybrids - tax the gas guzzlers.
It is important to people who drive a lot.
ReplyDeleteThe hybrid car tax is politically weird. I hope they know that.
It's not particularly surprising that a Republican administration prefers to break its no-new-taxes pledges with regressive taxation. It's a tradition!
ReplyDeleteNonnie Mouse @ 6:41. It's pretty typical for members of a cabinet to move on after a term. It's not really news. Although I do kind of hope that he nominates Bill Clinton as SecState, just for the heads-a'splodin'.

ReplyDeleteYes, second string. Like John Kerry. Is he a mop-up after Hillary, or not good enough in the first place?
Zombie wants Bill to mop-up after Hillary? Another excellent selection for second string.
ReplyDeleteWhile they are at, it why don't Republicans assess fees on those who don't drink alcohol or smoke cigarettes? After all, those scofflaws are dodging the tax on both items.
ReplyDeleteToll roads? Go ahead Republicans, make my day.
@ANON 2:43- Elctuons hqve consequences. Time for Hilary to step down and plan for her presidential run. Hilary did a superb job. No wars like the Bush administration. I sense a sore loser ANON.
ReplyDeleteZombie wants Bill to mop-up after Hillary? Another excellent selection for second string.
ReplyDeleteYeah, a President who presided over the biggest economic expansion in generations, and whose international standing, after the decade of work his institute has done on the world stage, is nearly unparalleled. Oh, what a second stringer. /sarcasm.
