The conservative pundit and wordsmith George Will goes after President Obama in a nationally-syndicated piece in which Obama or his administration is accused of "condescension" to voters, or is "bilious" and "discordant" in tone, among other negatives.
I am a long-time reader of Will's. I enjoy his writing even if I disagree with it.
But the confluence of his column today with disclosures about voter suppression efforts in Milwaukee lead me to this observation:
A tone that is bilious and discordant, and which condescended voters, were front-and-center in those jarring, Big Brotheresque billboards that were displayed in predominantly-minority neighborhoods in the 2010 and 2012 and warned against voter fraud.
And which were posted with the financial help of the Milwaukee-based Bradley Foundation, as has been documented.
As a Bradley Foundation board member, Will could direct his ire towards the foundation's discordant flyer into urban voting.
These corporate civics "courses" and voting "recommendations" are the pinnicle of condecension (as well as creepy authoritarian verbiage). And let's not forget Ron Johnson's pledge to "re-educate" America.
