Glad To See 'Pedal Taverns' Challenged

Milwaukee's City Attorney says they don't belong on the roads.

A few years ago, I said so, too.

  1. You almost sound old and crotchety James. I saw one of these contraptions a few weeks traveling in the 3rd ward and frankly I thought they were harmless. The speed was less than 5 MPH and very much in control. My only concern was the lack of seat belts for riders. Some could have easily fallen off. So perhaps we should go after all the shuttle busses to and from the bars to Miller Park that have no seat belts but plenty of drinkers? The shuttles continue to speed down Bluemound and through the Story Hill neighborhood. These shuttles pose way more threats than these peddle pushing fun machines. Harmless with a few modification.

  2. Call me old - - yup - - and crotchety - - guilty as charged, on this one.

The entire attitude about drinking in Wisconsin is dangerous and dismissive of everyday sober motorist, passenger and cyclists' rights.

We take it so casually that we are the only state to treat a first DUI as a ticket.

We need more crotchety people on this issue.

  5. Just to be clear. What happened at that meeting is the city approved the 5th bike. Yes it was an expansion! But at the same time the city attorney made it clear the law that they believed allowed people to bring their own on the bike, didn't actually let them do so. Apparently it is only for motorized vehicles! The Pedal Tavern has been a great addition to Milwaukee and I look forward to seeing the bikes on our streets for years to come!

  6. I, HammerHead, loathe those pedal taverns. They are a traffic hazard while moving, and especially when loading and unloading inebriated customers while the vehicle is double parked.

  7. Let's make them wind or solar powered, then the democrats will support them.
