'She's Not Talking' Unacceptable From Waukesha Clerk Nickolaus

[Thursday evening update: The glitch may have originated in a voting machine test ordered by state officials. Why Nickolaus didn't explain it is a continuing mystery.]

More questionable behavior is being reported by the Journal Sentinel about Waukesha County Clerk Kathy Nickolaus, best known for misreporting 2011 State Supreme Court results that ultimately gave a narrow win to incumbent Justice David Prosser and gave a black eye to Waukesha County's reputation for fair elections and reliable results.

So it's unimaginable this story could be written a year later:
Sometime after final testing of Waukesha County's election software - but before the April election - County Clerk Kathy Nickolaus mysteriously changed something in her office's computer programming, according to a consulting firm's report released Tuesday.

Only Nickolaus knows what she did. The consultants can't figure it out, and she's not talking.

But whatever she did, it caused a breakdown in reporting election results that will cost county taxpayers $256,300 to fix, the report says.
Waukesha, you have a problem.

  1. Wisconsin, we have a problem. Fair elections cannot be presumed with partisans like Kathy Nickolaus at large.

  2. So does Racine. Funny, I haven't seen any blogs about those mishaps. Oh, but wait... they favored the democrats, so, nothing to see here.

  3. RD's quick conflation falls flat. Nickolaus has been at the center of several election screwups. Prosser's messy win was not the first.

    She deserves scrutiny, on her own, of her own making.

  4. Racine's problems are much more troubling than anything that has happened in Waukesha.

  5. Nickolaus stumbles over her "do it yourself" political bumbling...a lightning rod for attracting negative criticism. If I was a GOP'r I'd set a table for her out on the back porch.

  6. Somebody changes the software and refuses to give an explanation. We are left wondering if she is having a breakdown or is corrupt.

    @RD
    Racine is south of Milwaukee and you are thinking of the recall election that Lehman won. This is about the GOP primary, in Waukesha, a suburb of Milwaukee, to the west of Milwaukee.

  7. Pools aren't the only thing empty in Waukesha...July 11, 2012 at 12:12 PM

    @RD: you have got to be kidding or are you in complete denial? Wake up RD and smell the fraud. Tell me RD- why would CN submit the cost of purchasing new voting machines and then retract that request AFTER she was told that a bid process would need to be used? Did she have a little kicky backy thingy going on there or was there some sort of software agreement going on. Tell me RD- will ya?

    RACINE??? - tell me about one clerk that refused to reveal what she did to screw up an entire election process?

  8. Conflated or not, I'll still be waiting for the blogs about Racine's voting irregularities.... I mean the goal is fair elections, correct? Everyone has concern for disenfranchised voters, right?

    Seems you were all over Nickolaus at the time, but now that the shoe is on the other foot in Racine, and ... {crickets}

    @RD: the shoes never matched or fit. It was never on the OTHER foot.

    Being all over someone is different from revealing facts RD.

  10. As JB said, Wisconsin, we have a problem. That includes Waukesha, Racine and the rest of the state. The electronic voting machines and scanners are all subject to problems and hand counting to verify isn't legal so yeah, we have a problem.

  12. RD compares Waukesha to Racine.

    Which is accurate in a very relevant way: they both have Republican County Clerks.

  13. @anon 5:33.

    If you can read you will know that there were many irregularities in the city of Racine. I'm not going to look them up for you. It sounds like you are about 12 years old so google it yourself.

    Way to use the vulgarities dude! Another class act democrats! Are you going to try and dump a beer on my head too? Aren't you the party of Coexist?

    I believe you are referring to the Racine County clerk being a Republican and not the Racine City Clerk who seems to be having the problems.

    But don't let that information get in the way of you trying to make a point.
