Conservatives Attack...On Behalf Of Inveterate Wisconsin Also-Ran Mark Neumann

The Club for Growth is pouring TV ad money into the Wisconsin GOP Senate primary attacking both Tommy Thompson and Eric Hovde - - for not being as authentically conservative as Mark Neumann.

For Tommy, it's chickens coming home to roost, but for Hovde? An elevation to real-candidate status, as the polls show. I'm guessing Hovde's personal and campaign spending will flick these ads off like a lady bug on your wrist.

Setting aside the comic relief - - Tommy's dramatic 'real conservative' re-branding is undermined from the right, and Hovde, the hedge fund Tea Partier, isn't accused of being not conservative enough? - - it's downright amazing that money is being flushed away on Neumann, who is sitting at 10% in the polls and lost statewide races to both the liberal Russ Feingold and conservative Scott Walker.

Where's his electability?

Which is a reminder that many Republicans are still peeved at Neumannn for even running against Walker in the 2010 GOP gubernatorial primary, and having held a press conference where he said Walker's fiscal record was worse than Jim Doyle''s.
Neumann, a former congressman, said fellow Republican Walker has proposed budgets over the past eight years that have been higher than Democrat Gov. Jim Doyle's.

Until now, Neumann has been reluctant to initiate attacks on Walker. He has been critical at times of Doyle, who is not running for re-election, and Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett, the leading Democrat in the race.

Neumann says as governor he would limit spending to 1% less than the rate of inflation. Had this been done over the last eight years, Neumann said, his budgeting would have produced $4 billion available for tax cuts.

Neumann stood outside Walker's office at the County Building on Wednesday morning, and as he has done at other media events, he was armed with charts and graphs.
Still - - every dollar spent this way is a dollar not aimed at Tammy Baldwin or Barack Obama, so please, more Club for Growth ads on Neumann's behalf.

  1. I'm surprised his opponents haven't used that squealing pig video. The pig. Show us the pig.

  2. Interesting how Neumann is using his ads to attack Obama when he should be attacking the HOOVDE. Wonder if he sees the writing on the wall.

  3. You didn't mention the other candidate, Jeff Fitzgerald. In response to Mike Gousha's question (worded more diplomatically, of course) if he thought his campaign had a chance in hell of winning, or even registering, on primary day, Fitzgerald responded that the August 14 primary date would generate a low turnout, and that low turnout would favor a "campaign like mine." In other words, if Jeff, his brother and his Dad are the only ones to show up at the polls on the 14th, why then he'd stand an excellent chance of being elected.

He looked like a deer in the headlights. Good luck, Republicans. Your choices are: 1. Crazy Angry
    2. Old, Crazy and Ridiculous
    3. Crazy and Unpredictable
    4. Scared Stiff
    Choose well.

  4. The GOP did tamp down turnout with the 8/14 date. The goal was to disenfranchise students. I'd think it hurts a cash-poor candidate like Jeff F. Walker will give him a Plale-level position after January.

  5. I'm voting for Tommy. If the AFP and CFG don't like him maybe the playing field will be a bit more level between Tommy and Tammy.
