Waukesha Writes Its Own Election Headline

Where else but Waukesha would this happen:

Voter thwarted in Waukesha for lack of ID

Waukesha - It took persistence - and a second trip to her Waukesha polling place - by a 63-year-old Waukesha woman to vote Tuesday. But she said her 87-year-old mother who couldn't make the trip back was disenfranchised by a poll worker who asked to see a photo ID.
Wisconsin's new voter ID law was in place for the February primary but not for Tuesday's general election after a judge ruled it was unconstitutional. The photo ID requirement is on hold while the matter is appealed.

  1. With all the back and forth of on-again off-again laws, and unending litigation, and parts of laws being tossed out but reinstated 2 minutes later by a different judge these days I won't be surprised if it turns out it also happened in another place as well. Then what?

  2. There was also an incident in Fitchburg, which is not making Lefty Blog headlines. One might ask why but one would be wasting one's time.

  3. I thought voter ID was meant to disenfranchise young inner city blacks?

    Who woulda thunk it?

On the other side of this story, the city clerk in Waukesha said this was simply not true.

  4. Voter ID was intended to disenfranchise those more likely to vote Democratic: the young, the elderly, the poor, the minorities. . . . The one act of Walker's that actually IS working. Congratulations, Walkerstan!

Nikolaus? Why would we ever doubt what she has to say?

  6. Nikolaus is the Waukesha County clerk. The City of Waukesha has their own clerk.

  7. Earlier I felt it was counter-productive to go all OMG!Waukesha! on Waukesha.(makes the accuser look paranoid, prejudicial, or akin to a person making s false rape charge, in that hysterical conclusions just diminish the power of really serious incidents that occur later)
However!!! Subsequent developments overwhelmingly suggest Kathy N. needs an emergency psych eval. She certainly seems to be a danger to herself and others. How do Waukesha residents resist the urge to pummel this woman with fruit when she's in the grocery store?

  8. Some notes - - Yes, the Waukesha city and county clerks are different people holding different offices. The County is where there are systemic problems.

The GAB has some authority over elections statewide. I believe it can insert it self into this mess.

Well, probably because comments like yours contain no information to work with...other than the righty chip on your shoulder attitude.
a good watchword to remember: inform before opinion

  10. As the story states, the city of Waukesha clerk is a guy, and he says that the woman voter is lying, because the city clerk's wife was in charge of the polling place.

Oh, okay. That's an example of yer incontrovertible evidence in Waukesha, city or county, dere.
