Pres. Bush Got Debt-Ceiling Increase Votes From Anti-Obama Republican Leaders

Documentation for, and links to multiple Bush-era debt ceiling uppers by Boehner, Cantor and McConnell - - here.

Reagan was a prolific tax-and-borrower, too.

But for Obama - - the GOP changes the rules.

  1. And Obama voted against raising the debt ceiling while in congress. My how the times have changed.

Also, Reid/Pelosi had a deal with the republicans and Obama would not agree to it. Now the Senate / Congress will put something together and send it to Obama to sign. If he doesn't, the blame will be placed solely on him, which it should be.

Obama is becoming less and less relevant with each passing day..... which is a good thing.

    Word for the day L-A-N-D-S-L-I-D-E.

  2. BTW - those same republican leaders are still willing to raise the debt ceiling, just not taxes.

  3. The comments underscore the right's agenda here: defeat Obama, period.

  4. ... and Obama's agenda is to use the debt ceiling issue to make the republicans look bad and help in his re-election.

The problem for him is that public opinion is falling on the side of the republicans. Although, that didn't stop him from ramming through his Obamacare package.

Also, it is not just the Republicans. The Democratic leadership (Reid/Pelosi)agreed in principle to the deal as well, but Obama didn't like it because it didn't increase "revenue" or as everyone else sees it, taxes.

There is a reason Obamas original budget was voted down 99-0 in the senate a few months ago. He really doesn't have a clue about leadership or the economy.

If defeating Obama will save this county from the continued tax, spend and see no results philosophy of his administration, yes then defeat him we must.

  5. The country's demographics are working against the narrow strip that the GOP is tied to. The corporate elite is successfully manipulating everyday Tea Partiers, but they are an ephemeral fringe element that will disappear, too.

Look at Palin's fading star, Bachmann's self-destruction and Rand Paul's marginalization.

The GOP is too hard-right ideologically. Most people are not out on that edge.

  6. Keep thinking that way. Was Walker's election in November that far away? Perhaps the Prosser election is bit closer of a reminder? Obama has shifted the country to the right with his failed policies and socialist philosophy.

At least you will have a lot to write about come November 7th 2012.

    Perry / Christie 2012!

  7. C'mon James, you know this answer.

Rule Number 1 for Reagan's fellater and all others in today's GOP: "Our rules don't apply to us."

  8. A disciple is a lockstep follower, a true believer. A disciple is certainly not a leader, or a person capable of his own critical thinking.

Should we take seriously the remarks of someone who describes himself as a "disciple?" Probably not, especially when the disciple is the follower of a man who was clearly demented during much of his second term. A disciple who blindly follows a President that frequently confused reality with movies and with his own fantasies, who set a record for administration appointees who were indicted, and who sold arms to the Ayatollah Khomeini in violation of US law. Remember the Ayatollah Khomeini? Remember when they really started to hate the U.S. in that corner of the world?

Only such a True Believer could maintain that Reagan was the patron saint of fiscal restraint, ignoring the fact that under Ronnie, the US debt increased threefold. For a true economic conservative, Reagan is at pathetic choice as a guide.

Distorted facts are hard to swallow. It gets tiring, for example, to read again and again the deceptive reference to the Senate's 99-0 vote on Obama's original budget plan. This factoid is a favorite shibboleth of wingnut blogs. It's always taken out of context, interpreted as a slap in the face by Obama's own political party, when in fact the budget was not supported by Democratic Senators because it was superseded by Obama's own deficit reduction plan. In other words, even Obama had abandoned it. You can look it up, but probably not on Fox News.

It's impossible to take seriously the hysterical rants and distortion of facts that characterize any ideologue, right or left. One might just as well believe in the Easter Bunny. As Frank Zappa said, "be a loyal plastic robot for a world that doesn't care."

  9. Reagan is at pathetic choice as a guide.

Apparently the Europeans do not think so as they are scurrying to build statues of this great American President.

If you want to talk about demented, perhaps you should look in the mirror. Especially if you are unable to concede the excellent leadership and American pride that Reagan brought back to our country after that failure of Carter. He started one of the greatest economic expansions in our history, by lowering taxes not raising them.

I'm betting that the POTUS in 2012 (My guess/hope is Perry) will look much the same way as Reagan did in '80, as Obama will not be a hard act to follow on any policy issue or debate.

Heck, if we could get a guy to just say "Yes or No" that would be a big improvement in the decision making process.
