City of Milwaukee officials sent City of Waukesha officials a letter asking if Waukesha understood that Milwaukee was not going to pay any costs related to Waukesha's Lake Michigan water diversion planning and possible infrastructure construction should Waukesha's long-stalled application for Lake Michigan water be approved.
The letter also asked if Waukesha understood that Milwaukee had a city policy requiring that a purchaser of water like Waukesha meet several social and economic policy requirements.
Both questions raise basic cost and intergovernmental questions for Waukesha.
A copy of the letter is here.
This is the second letter Milwaukee has sent Waukesha about these matters over the last year.
The Waukesha Patch, a relatively-new online local reporting service, follows the reaction in Waukesha to the receipt of the Milwaukee letter.
The Patch says there will be more discussion about Waukesha's water planning at a Water Utility Commission meeting at 6 p.m. Thursday.
The Town of Waukesha also has a Thursday evening meeting about water planning set for 6:30.
