Big business knows it's for all the marbles, as GOP talker and donor Charlie Sykes has said, so who's surprised that righty spending for Prosser is outpacing liberal spending for Kloppenberg by almost 25%, the Journal Sentinel reports?
The salient paragraph:
"...conservative groups backing Prosser are now outspending the sole liberal group backing Kloppenburg, the study found. Although the two sides were spending about evenly earlier in the week, the $993,000 spent by the Greater Wisconsin Committee has now been eclipsed by $1.2 million from the conservative camp: $475,000 from Wisconsin Manufacturers & Commerce, $415,000 from Wisconsin Club for Growth and $216,000 from the little-known Citizens for a Strong America."
We wish that were all. The WMC and other right-wing groups are spending at least $2.4-million IN ONE WEEK leading up to the election. That is unprecedented in Wisconsin.
ReplyDeleteSo it goes.
ReplyDeleteI'd really like to see a thoughtful and comprehensive analysis of David Prosser's Big Lie campaign strategy, which has to've been calculated.
ReplyDeleteMakes me wish George Mosse were still alive -- maybe Paul Boyer?
The totalitarian nature of Prosser's lies, the refusal to admit anything whatsoever -- in the inversion of truth Prosser feigns impartiality and openly acts as a highly partisan right-winger, while attacking Kloppenburg as an 'ideologue'.
It is insidious precisely because Prosser's campaign is directed at the Supreme Court, and it warrants closer examination by someone who has responsibly and thoughtfully looked at totalitarian rhetorical strategies, be they communist or fascist. And yes, my family roots here in Wisconsin, as men and women of faith and German ancestry (arriving here in the 1870s), direct that we be concerned with the tactics and strategies which, though condemned by history, are misused by David Prosser.
Prosser's willingness to condemn his opponents ads and his vow to condemn any ad aired on his behalf in a debate setting, but instantly reverse course when called on it by Bill Leuders, is but one example. He plays the victim, while committing he same violations himself. He accuses Kloppenburg, but lets Gableman and himself off the hook. He scapegoats others, but takes no personal or professional responsiblity.
It's really an extraordinary performance. I hope it hasn't gone unnoticed in certain quarters in Wisconsin, by which I mean folks whose conscience has led them to devote attention and labor to totalitarian rhetoric, political tactics and abuse of power.
The record documents the decisions of someone particularly unfit to hold judicial office. Someone who has no concern for the rule of law, or the responsiblity of office. Prosser sees 'privilege' of serving not as a democratic ideal, but as an aristocratic entitlement.
Allowing any external entity to write internal confict-o-interest rules for the Wisconsin Supreme Court, in and of itself, demonstrates a lack of comprehension on David Prosser's part that he has a public responsibility and an obligation to the office of Justice at the Wis Supreme Court. He allowed the WMC to write the rules he and the court operates by, yet refuses to acknowledge that this eviscerates the credibility and integrity of the Court. Prosser still calls himself impartial, and neither he nor his campaign has the capacity to recognize any moral or ethical boundaries. And that's but one instance.
Kloppenberg could save money by dropping the sexual assault attack ad against Prosser. The victim asked her to but she refused. What a compassionate woman!
ReplyDeleteTo Anon: It's not her ad. Repeat: it's not her ad.
ReplyDeleteToo bad there isn't an ad showing the fat cats supporting Prosser. And what those fat cats will receive with Prosser on the bench.
ReplyDeleteThe anti-Prosser ad does not mention the victims'names. However, in the anti-Kloppenberg ad, the victim, Troy Merryfield, identifies himself and his brother by name, and appears in the ad. When he claims he is being victimized all over again, you have to wonder why he choses to name himself and allow his face and voice to be shown in the TV.
ReplyDeletePolitiFact should check out whether Father Perp was indeed brought to justice and 'prosecuted.'
