The Phony Arguments Used Against JoAnne Kloppenburg

Right-wing groups and talk radio megaphones (megaphonies?) supporting incumbent Justice David Prosser say Assistant General JoAnne Kloppenburg shouldn't be elected a Supreme Court Justice because she hasn't been a judge.

Well, neither was incumbent Justice David Prosser, whom Kloppenburg is trying to unseat, before he was appointed to the Court by then-Gov. Tommy Thompson.

OK, say the Kloppenburg critics, she wasn't appointed a judge even by Democrats like former Gov. Jim Doyle.

And what if she were?

When Louis Butler was appointed to the Supreme Court by Doyle, the same people promoting Prosser and attacking Kloppenburg engineered Butler's defeat in 2008.

And Republicans like Congressman Jim Sensenbrenner are still blocking Butler's appointment by Pres. Barack Obama to a federal judgeship.

  1. Let's vote on whether unions represent the working class. Wisconsin has a referendum. Let the people decide and not one man who never ran on this issue in the first place. Are you guys afraid of something?

  2. I was going to post a prediction saying Prosser would win by two points but it was too late. Obviously I am pleased with this result, a win is a win, and beating an incumbent in what should have been a low profile election is not an easy thing to do. A more decisive win would have been nicer but this still sends a message to Walker. Now onto the recalls!
