Martin Scanlan, a Marquette University Professor of Education, raises in a timely Journal Sentinel op-ed solid legitimate concerns about a bill introduced by the new conservative majorities at the Capitol that would drastically change governance and teacher training requirements in Wisconsin (read: mostly Milwaukee) charter schools.
My take: it's a companion piece to the politically-driven effort by out-state and suburban Republicans to weaken home in rule in Milwaukee, whether by legislatively ending collective bargaining and public employee residency, or by starving municipal budgets.
I think that any schools that are accredited for students - whether public, private or charter should be held to the same standard with respect to teacher certification standards.
