The Road To Sprawlville, Chapter 43: Waukesha Bypass Taking Shape
The favored route now dekes away from some open space to the West, but will still induce traffic and bring all the negatives of a four-lane highway as the city pushes development and water service farther from its boundaries.
Unfortuately the public has had no opportunity to provide any comments on a no-build alternative. The no-build alternative did not appear as an alternative during the deliberations of the citizens advisory committee, nor did it appear as an alternative at any of the public informational meetings.
We attended the public information meetings and paid attention to what the citizens gathered around the tables and easels were saying. Many creative ideas were shared by citizens for improving the existing transportation infrastructure without paving through neighborhoods or the Pebble Creek Environmental Corridor. The format at these venues did not allow these ideas to be captured or documented.
The absence of the no-build option leads me to assume the County is not seriously considering the no-build option, and attempting to silence the citizen's voice that support the no-build option as a preference.
The County and their consultants say they will consider the no-build option during the environmental analysis process of this study.
Postponing the exploration of a no- build option to the next "scope of services" certainly doesn't comply with spirit of the National or State Environmental Policy Act.
