UWM Chancellor Carlos Santiago Is Leaving

UWM's chancellor finally pulls the plug, with the controversial county grounds expansion left on the next chancellor's desk to manage.

  1. Having spearheaded many grand initiatives, they are all still great successes for the Chancellor. However, the Engineering facility location must be reconsidered. Altering the location will not undo the impact the UWM expansion projects will have on the Region. It should be emphasised that there are many alternatives for the Engineering building, Tax revenue for Tosa, partnerships with the Medical Complex, without purchasing and ruining an 89 acre tract of greenspace. Officials can help smooth the transition by listening to creative options, knowing that the success is the idea, not the location. Keep the County Grounds intact for future generations of wildlife and humans.

  2. Whatever his legacy of accomplishments, Chancellor Santiago's tenure was--from the beginning--redolent of the careerist's "I'm outa here, just paying my dues on the way to the big time".

  3. Like the Scott Walker agenda at the Courthouse. All about what's next and bigger and better, for him, rather than for constituencies, or taxpayers.

  4. He finally landed a higher paying job. It is odd that these non-profits pay more than chancellor at a major state university. I wonder if he gets the free luxury house and car doing his non-profit charity work out in DC. It must be profitable to be in a non-profit.
