Asian Carp Lawsuit In Court; The City Of Chicago, Industries And Businesses Object
Litigants trying to force changes to the Chicago shipping canal aimed at blocking the march towards the Great Lakes of the Asian carp are now opposed by a coalition of business, commercial and municipal interests.
What about portaging around the locks utilizing the several rail corridors that currently exist along the Chicago Sanitary and Ship Canal. Have they thought of fitting the barges with a set up allowing for roll-on-roll off railcars to facilitate such a portage?
And, have they thought of the external costs of spreading invasive species and other contaminants between watersheds and how they propose to mitigate them if this canal remains open?
