Waukesha Should Have Taken Application Critiques To Heart

Waukesha's Common Council, former Mayor Nelson and the city's Water Utility preferred the inside game when they wrote and edited the Lake Michigan diversion application while barely paying even lip service to environmental, civic and conservation groups that had been raising fundamental issues over the application's content and direction.

Compare this one group's critique, for example, or this coalition's, with the objections raised by the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources when it turned back the application as incomplete and deficient.

Hubris and the 'not-invented-here' syndrome make for poor planning, dubious policy-making and wasteful governance.
