Waukesha May Be Open To Alternative Water Sources
Word is that new Mayor Jeff Scrima wants a Waukesha County firm to take a crack at radium removal as a far cheaper and more expeditious route to the mandated, 2018 compliance deadline faced by the city for cleaner water.
So far, the Waukesha Water Utility and Common Council are pushing the Lake Michigan option, though a draft application has been stalled out there for six weeks.
For years, the approach in Waukesha has been 'Lake Michigan or bust,' but there are multiple alternatives involving deep wells, shallow wells, riverbank inducement, radium removal and blending that needed more study.
Maybe that is about to happen - - beginning at tonight's Council meeting - - which might provide some perspective on the power struggle underway in Waukesha over who is setting policy.
And here's another option.
