Much as I want to slam WPRI, I just can't until I see the actual text and question wording from the survey.
My first instinct is to trust Dr Goldstein, who is most likely using similar question wording to the universally accepted National Election Survey (NES). It's academic mantra -- but who knows.
Instead of criticizing the survey, I'd take the results at face value -- it's a dead heat -- stop making excuses and campaign like hell.
Barrett can't just sit back and rest on his nice guy laurels anymore. He's gotta raise way more $ if he's gonna win this.

Every poll says the governor's race is a dead heat. It's WPRI's pimping for Tommy Thompson for Senate that is most suspect.
