Wind Farm Stirs Opposition

NIMBYism in far off rural Wyoming.

Would people prefer endless dependence on foreign oil, coal plant air and water pollution, and resource depletion instead?

  1. James - speaking of NIMBY-isms, did you plan on blogging on Obama's plan to loan $2 billion (of money we don't have) to the Brazilian oil giant Petobras for exploration off the coast of Brazil?

Guess he is all for off-shore oil drilling, as long as it is not off Martha's Vineyard. Doesn't want to ruin the view in his vacation spot after all.

  2. You have moved from preposterous to Master of Nonsequitors.

  3. As I have pointed out once already - while I was probably exaggerating in my comments on Doyle, to say I was being preposterous is simply inaccurate.

Now that I have been deemed the Master of the Non Sequitur - explain to me exactly the invalidity of my segue from one about NIMBY and energy to another story about NIMBY and energy.

Please illuminate me oh great Obi-rowen Kenobi . . .

  4. Obama is vacationing in Martha's Vineyard, not making energy plan policy for the island.

Would you have had the US decline to participate with Brazil in its development, perhaps leaving that path open to others, like China?

It's going to be a long 4-year-term for you seize on anything and everything and turn it into an anti-Obama argument.

    Get a grip.

  5. First off your NIMBY-ism wind mill article is extremely germane to Martha’s Vineyard - which is the locale of one of the pre-eminent NIMBY fights going on with the proposed Cape Wind project. Am wondering if you have ever blogged on that.

Mr. Obama and most progressives are against off shore oil exploration in the U.S. (Martha’s Vineyard is on the east coast of the U.S. btw in case you didn’t know that) but apparently not elsewhere. So it’s not only a NIMBY thing, but also highlights your hypocrisy.

As far as the U.S investing in off shore oil exploration with the government of Brazil, of course I am all for it. Am even more interested in developing our own oil resources be it in off shore, on shore, ANWR, anywhere really.

Btw if in fact I am doing what you accuse me of , politicizing everything and making it anti-Obama - I learned the technique observing progressive's behavior for the last 8 years.

  6. To Anon Jim:

There is limited value in debating an anonymous person, but:

Yes, I know all about the wind farm proposal off Martha's Vineyard.

Yes, I blogged about it. (You could have found this yourself using the blog's search function, but here is the link:
    http://thepoliticalenvironment.blogspot.com/2009/01/wind-turbines-meet-resistance.html).

You will see it is critical of the Kennedy's and other NIMBY's there.

Finally, take some responsibility for your own beliefs and statements. Don't say they are in reaction to what you think progressives do and say and write.

Like your anonymous stance, that's a cop out.
