Vital Work Often Goes Unappreciated Until The End

I was sad to learn a few days ago that former City of Milwaukee neighborhood planning specialist Mike Wisniewski had died.

He was like a lot of public employees - - well-known within City Hall and certain professional communities - - but not necessarily by the general public.

Yet it is the public that reaps the benefits from Mike's line of work, all of which adds value and pleasure to our daily lives.

I feel badly that Mike's later years were cut short, and that he no doubt suffered: I did some work for a group organizing settlements for asbestosis-related cancer victims' families, and that entire situation is scandalous and deeply tragic.

So let's remember Mike and others who work everyday for the rest of us, behind-the-scenes, and make Milwaukee better.
