Forget those potholes in the City of Milwaukee, or the Milwaukee County crumbling pavement (we're looking at you, Scott Walker):
The only community in the County to get a transportation grant of stimulus funds from the state: River Hills, one of the wealthiest communities in the state.
as of the last census:
ReplyDeleteMedian household income for River Hills: $161,292
Median household income for Milwaukee County: $38,100
y'know, the law says that stimulus highway infrastructure money was supposed to be prioritized to help economically distressed communities. exactly how does River Hills qualify?
(PS, Germantown & Menomonee Falls, which also have significantly higher average incomes, are getting the money too. meanwhile, the city of Milwaukee is left behind. again.)
I couldn't agree more!
ReplyDeleteToo much of the stimulus decision-making is coordinated in Madison, far from Milwaukee.
ReplyDeleteWe'll see more of the same when SEWRPC spreads millions across a seven-county region, and makes Milwaukee compete against upscale communities in Waukesha, Oaaukee and Washington County, for example.
This is an old pattern.
