John McCain Doing His Best Bob Dole Imitation

Behind in the polls, John McCain is calling on his inner Bob Dole and calling Barack Obama a liar.

I remember a moment on some early morning news program when Bod Dole was running against Bill Clinton - - The Today Show? - - when Dole barked out at the end, "When are you going to quit lying about my record," or "quit lying about my record," or words to that effect.

Dole earned his Mr. Angry label, and McCain, whose contempt for Obama was palpable during the first debate, is doing it again - - playing right into Barack Obama's hands.

Charlie Sykes this morning got a chuckle out of Dennis Miller when he said McCain needed to fight harder and get over his "battered conservative syndrome."

But the reality is that McCain's wounds are self-inflicted.

Because desperate is as desperate does.
